The area was once strip mined, then the top soil was re-added, contoured and planted. The areas will be open for use based on weather and road conditions. One of the best places that I have camped at in the last 4 years, I am a full time RV'r and the locals are very friendly. This is former coal-mining land, reclaimed from strip-mining. To call the AEP lakes of Southeastern Ohio a fisherman's paradise might seem an overstatement, but a visit to these rich waters leaves little doubt. Maple Grove (G) and Woodgrove (H) are the only campgrounds open to the public right now. Ok, went camping here for three weeks and ended up staying at a couple different campgrounds on the AEP Lands (Ohio Power), stayed for just over four months. Although use of our areas is free of charge, many require a permit. They offer hunting, fishing, hiking trails, mountain bike trails, horse trails, a dog-training area, and campgrounds.
